Why Did the Turtle Cross the Road?

We saw a turtle crossing the road this morning. Any animal attracts much attention from my kids, but this turtle really made them excited. Grandpa got out of the car and helped the turtle across the road. The kids begged us to take the turtle home as we drove away; so we promised to get it on the way back if we could find it and release it in my parents back yard. We were sad that the turtle wasn't there when we turned passed them corner about an hour later.

We spent the afternoon at Grandmother's house. We had a horrible storm, again. The turtles must be out with all the rain because Nana (who lives next door) came over with a small box turtle that she'd seen in her yarn. Nana will be getting extra hugs for days and she didn't even know about the turtle from this morning. The kids scared the poor turtle (which I named Tabitha) and it went straight into her shell. I made the kids go in and would only let them see the turtle from the backdoor. While they were waiting for the turtle to came back out, we tied a pillow to Caden's back so he could pretend to be a turtle. The girls didn't want Caden to be the only one having fun and soon they were crawling around the floor with shells on their back too. We brought the turtle home with us and released her in my parents flower bed. She crawled away quickly and is resting in the corner of the flower bed. Maybe she'll stick around so we can see her again.
